Quello che è certo è il fatto che i migliori marchi automobilistici presenti oggi nel mondo siano certamente nati per una grande passione, la passione per il rombo dei motori, anche se un secondo fattore a mia opinione scatenante sarebbe stato il fattore sfida, il voler essere umanamente migliori, vincere le gare, poter creare automobili più performanti di altre, insomma, i motivi per i quali siano nati meravigliosi marchi automobilistici li potremmo riassumere in tre parole: passione, competizione e sfida, il tutto in un mix di esasperazione di questi tre sentimenti, sentimenti che avrebbero portato i vecchi costruttori di automobili a superare se stessi in una vera e propria “guerra” combattuta fa una Panamericana ed una 1000Miglia, in un turbinio adrenalinico di competizioni in giro per il mondo, investendo sulle proprie creazioni vita, denaro ma soprattutto prestigio, il prestigio che non si è mai perso nel tempo soprattutto se pensiamo a certi marchi di vetture sportive che tutt’ora si attestano come veri e propri capolavori di ingegneria, nonostante l’introduzione dell’ elettronica che tanto aiuta le autovetture ed i piloti. Sono un chiaro esempio i marchi come Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Mercedes ad altri che sono miracolosamente sopravissuti alle sfide che il futuro avrebbe imposto, sfide che purtroppo hanno prodotto innumerevoli “vittime” fra i marchi gloriosi del passato. Un marchio inglese che ha resistito ma che per forza di cose ha dovuto nel tempo cercare di difendersi è la nota vettura britannica Jaguar, un marchio molto conosciuto per essere una delle automobili sportive preferite dalla Casa Reale britannica. In questo caso si tratta di un marchio che sarebbe riuscito a sopravvivere alle sfide del tempo. Ricordo che ci fu un periodo in cui si sarebbe pensato che l’autovettura del giaguaro potesse morire mentre invece con la classica agilità del felino che funge da marchio, il brand britannico ha saputo agilmente scattare quindi lottare in velocità  per sopravvivere e devo dire che nonostante i vari passaggi di mano, nonostante i periodi più o meno gloriosi, oggi la Jaguar è viva e vegeta. Devo ammettere che nonostante tutto Jaguar sia ancora in grado di produrre veicoli sportivi davvero eccezionali e di particolare bellezza. Ora però lascerei il prologo per passare alla storia di questa supercar inglese onnipresente alla 1000Miglia. Anche la Jaguar ha origini che si perdono nel lontano 1922. La Jaguar è la tipica vettura sportiva che offre un particolare assetto da corsa, grandi prestazioni come potenza e velocità ma il tutto si fonde nelle linee sinuose ed agili tipiche di questo tipo di vettura senza tralasciare però l’eleganza. Due modelli davvero intramontabili sono la SS1 e la SS2, due tipi di vetture che hanno veramente contribuito a creare l’aurea di eccezione cui oggi gode il “giaguaro”. Nel lontano 1922 un ingegnere appassionato di motociclismo, William Lyons fondò la Swallow Sedecar Company assieme ad un costruttore di moto carrozzette William Walmsley. In quei tempi l’azienda poteva vantare solamente otto operai attestandosi come una piccolissima fabbrica di moto. Il 1926 fu un anno cruciale per la fabbrica inglese che fu costretta a traslocare e trasferire il proprio impianto. Il 1926 fu anche l’anno che vide l’inizio di un volano di successi dato che fu costretta ad ingrandirsi dedicando un certo spazio anche alla realizzazione di automobili. In questo periodo la fabbrica mutò in Swallow Sidecar Company Coachbuilding ed iniziò la produzione di autoveicoli specializzandosi nella Austin Seven, una vettura devo dire non proprio super costosa ma dedicata a quella fascia di clientela che non avrebbe potuto permettersi di spendere troppo per un’ automobile. Accadde un ‘o’ quanto avvenne per marchi come Fiat e VW che iniziarono una particolare produzione dedicata a fare in modo che anche la classe media potesse possedere una vettura che a quei tempi fu veramente un lusso. Nel 1928 l’ azienda dovette trasferire l’impianto produttivo nuovamente e la stessa cosa avvenne due anni dopo, nel 1930. Nel 1931 venne presentato il primo modelli di Jaguar SS1 e tre anni dopo l’ azienda divenne totalmente proprietà di Lyons causa le dimissioni del socio. Il cambio societario fece in modo che la politica aziendale mutasse come pure la ragione sociale che divenne SS Car LTD una nuova veste aziendale che abbracciò una nuova politica: la produzione di auto del segmento lusso. Nel dopoguerra la Jaguar non fu solamente un modello di vettura ma il nome riguardò la stessa fabbrica di automobili. Nel 1960 la Jaguar LTD acquisì il marchio Daimler, tre anni dopo vinse la prima edizione del Campionato Europeo Turismo, nel 1966 venne studiato un modello migliorato e molto avanzato con i due sedili posteriori. Con il tempo l’azienda fu protagonista di una forte espansione tanto da divenire quotata in borsa. In questo periodo Jaguar immette sul mercato vetture sportive meravigliose che regalano al marchio un grande successo. Con il successo nacquero anche nuovi obbiettivi come un aumento qualitativo delle vetture ed una maggiore affidabilità. Nel 1990 la Jaguar passa nelle mani dell’ americana Ford ma riesce a mantenere lo spirito britannico che ebbe sin dagli esordi. Nei primi anni alla Jaguar venne imposta una errata strategia di aziendale che portò il marchio a subire una certa sofferenza. La maggiore novità del periodo avrebbe riguardato il motore ma non l’estetica della auto. Il nuovo motore fu un V12 che non aveva nulla a che vedere con i motori Jaguar di un tempo glorioso. Gli anni successivi il marchio vide un miglioramento dato dalla competizione fra Jaguar e brand teutonici importanti coma BMW ad Audi. A fine anni 90 uscì la Jaguar S-Type, un modello di buona eleganza, una berlina realizzata su ispirazione della Jaguar del 1963. In questo caso la S-Type ebbe un buon successo e riuscì ad uscire dalla palude che stava attraversando tornando al successo dei tempi andati. Seguirono modelli come la X-Type ma restò nell’ambito delle vetture non esagerate abbracciando una clientela normale. Forse il mancato successo fu per una somiglianza innegabile con la Ford Mondeo che montava allestimenti analoghi. Nel 1999 Ford si concentra in una conglomerazione a cui apparterranno marchi come Jaguar, Volvo, Land Rover ed Aston Martin. Nel 2008 entrò in scena l’ indiana Tata Motors che acquisì Jaguar e Daimler. Nonostante la distanza dalla tradizione britannica Tata riuscì a mantenere vivo lo stile Jaguar meglio dei passati proprietari, apportando al giaguaro un disegno maggiormente moderno, aggressivo ed innovativo. Due modelli gloriosi come precedentemente accennato furono la SS1 e la SS2 (la SS nella ragione sociale dell’azienda lo si deve al secondo conflitto mondiale). Devo ammettere che passando da Ford a Tata Motors le Jaguar abbiano guadagnato in vari ambiti. In questo caso possiamo vedere automobili più moderne nelle linee ma sempre molto eleganti, un connubio davvero non facile far coincidere l’eleganza con la sportività. Per quanto concerne i motori a mio modesto parere oggi sono più robusti ed affidabili. In merito alle prestazioni delle moderne autovetture Jaguar nulla da dire. Le prestazioni delle moderne supercar rispecchierebbero appieno l’agilità ed il ruggito tipico del giaguaro.
